چکیده

INTRODUCTION Radiofrequency (RF) pulse angle inhomogeneity is a significant problem in breast MRI at 3T. Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-MRI of the breast with FLASH is susceptible to this RF inhomogeneity, and results in errors in the measurement of tumour enhancement ratio (ER) [1], where ER is a function of changes in relaxation rate (ΔR1) and represents contrast agent concentration in the tissue. We have previously shown that saturation-recovery snapshot FLASH (SRSF) (Fig. 1a) reduces the errors in ER when complete saturation is achieved [2]. Extending this work, the aim of this study was to access the effectiveness of Hoffmann's method of saturation [3] in the presence of RF pulse angle inhomogeneity. This was done by performing a simulated DCE-MRI study and calculating ER.

Modeling the influence of TR and excitation flip angle on the MTR obtained from 3D FLASH MRI

Introduction Spoiled gradient-echo (FLASH) sequences are commonly used for magnetization transfer (MT) quantification and clinical MRI at higher field strengths. Considerable work has been devoted to optimize the MT ratio (MTR) via the properties of the MT pulse (1,2). However, little attention has been paid to the influence of TR and excitation flip angle. By accounting for excitation and rela...

Transmit B1+ field inhomogeneity and T1 estimation errors in breast DCE-MRI at 3 tesla.

PURPOSE To quantify B1+ variation across the breasts and to evaluate the accuracy of precontrast T1 estimation with and without B1+ variation in breast MRI patients at 3 Tesla (T). MATERIALS AND METHODS B1+ and variable flip angle (VFA) T1 mapping were included in our dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) breast imaging protocol to study a total of 25 patients on a 3.0T GE MR 750 system. We compute...

Image-guided radio-frequency gain calibration for high-field MRI.

High-field (≥ 3T) MRI provides a means to increase the signal-to-noise ratio, due to its higher tissue magnetization compared with 1.5T. However, both the static magnetic field (B(0)) and the transmit radio-frequency (RF) field (B 1+) inhomogeneities are comparatively higher at higher field strengths than those at 1.5T. These challenging factors at high-field strengths make it more difficult to...

The Effect of B1 Inhomogeneity on Enhancement Ratio Measurements Using Dce-mri of the Breast at 3t

Introduction Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-MRI has been proven to be very useful in the diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer. In the recent years, 3T MR scanners have become more common in routine diagnostic imaging. The main advantage of high field imaging is the improved signal to noise ratio. However, the major drawback is that there is an increased inhomogeneity in radiofrequency tran...

Inherent insensitivity to RF inhomogeneity in FLASH imaging.

Radiofrequency (RF) field inhomogeneity is an unavoidable problem in MRI, and it becomes severe at high magnetic fields due to the dependence of B1 on the sample. It leads to nonuniformities in image intensity and contrast, causing difficulties in quantitative interpretation and image segmentation. In this work, it is observed that with the fast low-angle shot (FLASH) sequence, which is often u...
